Biographie

Née à Philadelphie aux États Unis, Sharon Evans a commencé sa carrière de chanteuse en s'accompagnant à la guitare dans les clubs et piano-bars de Philadelphie et Saint-Louis. En 1977 elle a quitté les États Unis pour Angleterre, guitare en bandoulière.

Pendant plus de 6 ans et grâce à la musique, elle a voyagé, exploré des paysages visuels et sonores et a rencontré des musiciens d'horizons différents. En 1983, Sharon est revenue en Europe par l'Inde, le Népal, le Vietnam et la Mongolie  - pour s'installer en France.

En 1983 Sharon a enregistré son premier album ; "Landscape". C'était un album de compositions personnelles avec  Sharon aux voix et à la guitare acoustique accompagnée par des musiciens de Jazz.   Ensuite elle a échangé sa guitare pour jouer les percussions avec des musiciens africains, argentins, brazilians et cubains.

"Paris était un vivier incroyable pour la musique dans les années 80. Avant même que l'étiquette 'World Music' existait,

on côtoyait les musiciens de partout dans le monde - surtout dans le milieu de Jazz."

En 1984, elle a crée son propre groupe : le Sharon Evans Group avec lequel elle a enregistré 3 albums, a composé plus de 50 chansons, et a donné de milliers de concerts à travers la France et l'Europe. Les articles et interviews avec le Sharon Evans Groupe apparaient fréquemment dans Télérama, Jazz Hot et Jazz Magazine, parmi d'autres. Ses trois albums faisaient partis des playlists sur FIP, TSF et France Musique. Time to Live a été élu disque de la semaine par Europe 2.

Parallèlement à son groupe, elle a chanté et joué les percussions avec We Be Toys pendant 6 ans.

Auteur, compositeur, chanteuse, percussionniste, guitariste après 14 ans de tournée, elle a décidé d'arrêter le Sharon Evans Group afin de:

" lâcher les responsabilités d'être celle sur laquelle tout se repose." C'est a ce moment-là qu'elle a rejoint le groupe salsa exclusivement féminin ; Rumbanana. Elle a également fait les choeurs et percussions pour Dick Rivers.

Sharon continue à s'investir dans différents projets musicaux,que ça soit ses compositions (SHAFRA), des reprises Bluesy (Eric Antraygues)  ou bien les reprises de la Motown, Soul et Funk (Soul Me Funk).

Biography

Born in Philadelphia, Sharon Evans started her career singing and playing the guitar in piano bars and clubs in Philadelphia and Saint Louis.

Sharon left the States in 1977 - spending four years working and travelling in Great Britain and two years in Nepal. She also travelled extensively (and continues to travel)  throughout Europe, Mongolia, Thailand and Vietnam. Her singing payed for her travels and her travels fed her inspiration.

Sharon arrived in Paris in 1983 armed with her first compositions and ideas,

In 1983, Sharon recorded her first album ; Landscape.  It was an acoustic album of the songs she'd written on her guitar during her travels.  After this album, she exchanged the guitar for percussion, working with musicians from Brazil, Argentina, Africa and Cuba.

"Paris was an exciting place to be in the 80's. Musicians from all over the world were getting together to play.

It was a precursor to what became known as 'world music'.

At the time, this openness didn't yet exist in the music scenes of either the United Kingdom or the States."

In 1984 she created the Sharon Evans Group. During the 14 years this group existed, she recorded 3 albums, wrote over 50 songs and gave thousands of concerts throughout France and Europe. Articles and interviews with the Sharon Evans Groupe frequently appeared in Télérama, Jazz Hot and Jazz Magazine, among others. All three of her albums were on the playlists of FIP, TSF and France Musique. Time to Live was voted Record of the Week by Europe 2.

Sharon disbanded the group in 1996 in order to "...take a break from the responsabilities of being a leader ". This is when she joined the all women's salsa groupe Rumbanana and accompanied Dick Rivers as backing vocalist and persussionnist.
